Background

Prof. Helen Afang Andow, Ph.D. is the first female Professor of Entrepreneurship Management from the northern part of the country, an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and a doctoral graduate of the prestigious premier Military University in West Africa, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). She started her teaching career in 2006 at the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna as Assistant Lecturer. She left as Lecturer I to Kaduna State University as a Senior Lecturer in 2014, where she attained the rank of professor in 2020. She has authored eight textbooks and over 70 peer-reviewed research articles in national and international journals. She was a former Head of the Department of Business Administration from 2014 – 2018, Director Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre from 2018 – 2022, Deputy Dean of Postgraduate School 2016 – 2017 and a senate member of Kaduna State University from 2014 – 2022. She has successfully supervised 5 PhDs and 33 MScs and externally examined 2 PhDs and 14 MScs across Nigerian Universities. She has attended workshops, trainings, courses and conferences across the globe.

She currently holds the positions of patron/adviser of ENACTUS KASU Branch, Board Member of the Association of Certified Business Development Service Providers, Board Member of the Arewa Entrepreneurship Frontier Network, and Senate-designated Member of the Kaduna State University Governing Council. She also sits on the MSME Business Development Services Limited’s Board of Advisors (BoA).  

Her academic diversity has earned her certification as a trainer for doctoral supervision from Stellenbosch University (African Doctoral Academy), South Africa; She is also a Certified E-Learning expert by Louisiana State University, USA. She participated in the Training of Trainer programme on Entrepreneurship by Lagos Business School; served as External Examiner to various Universities (Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nile University, Adamawa State University, Nasarawa State University, Airforce Institute of Technology). She is a Resource person for the MBA Residency Programme SMC University, a member Board of examiners and supervision at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), a Certified Business Development Service Provider (BDSP) trained by Growbridge Advisors, London, UK and SMEDAN and a member of the NUC Accreditation team and Resource Verification to many universities. 

She is a fellow of many institutes/associations: Institute of Human Capital Development of Nigeria (FCIHCDN); Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management (FIBDFM); Kabiru Gombe Centre for Religious Diversity, Ethics & Peace Studies (FKGCRDEPS); Institute of Registered Administrative Managers of Nigeria (FIRAMN); Institute of Business and Economic Analysts, Nigeria (FBEA); The Global Academy of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (FCGEP); African Council for Small & Entrepreneurship (FCSBE) among others. She is a member of The Academy of Management Nigeria; National Business Development Service Provider (BDSP) Network; Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; Capital Market Academics; Association of Entrepreneurship Scholars; Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria. She is a recipient of many national and international awards.
